Seven teens arrested after 'awful' Congleton Bus Station assault

The ages of seven teenagers arrested after a bus station assault have been revealed.

As previously revealed on February 13, a 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were arrested.

Now five more teenagers have been arrested, all but one of which are children.

This includes three boys aged 15, 17, and 18 and two girls aged 15 and 16.

It is the latest update into a police investigation into a serious assault in Congleton Town Centre, where a 51-year-old adult was hospitalised due to the incident.

All of the arrested have since been released on conditional bail as enquiries continue. No charges have been made as of yet.

The assault happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday 12 February near Congleton Bus Station, leaving a 51-year-old man with serious injuries.

DS Claire Miles said: "I'd like to reassure residents that the investigation continues to gain pace and we are following numerous enquiries. As part of these enquiries, a number of teenagers have been arrested and are now on conditional bail.

"I'd urge anyone with information who hasn't yet spoken to us to contact us."

It is unwelcome news for the Bus Station area, which will welcome destination attraction Capital Walk this year.

51 violence and sexual offences were reported in Congleton West - where the Bus Station lies - during September 2021.

This stat includes serious assault, and is the latest data set on crimes of this kind available.

Violence and sex crimes comprised 39% of the 128 crimes in Congleton West for September 2021.
