Pupils at a Congleton primary school are working to revamp their school garden with the support of Stewart Milne Homes.

The housebuilder recently awarded £1,000 of funding to Black Firs Primary School as part of its Eco-Gardens initiative.

Using this funding, children from the school have been busy landscaping the grounds, including choosing extra planters and bee-friendly plants to enhance the area at the front of the school.

Additional flowers have also been planted around the grounds, alongside five fruit trees around the school's pond area.

Overseen by Jess Milne, Special Educational Needs Coordinator at Black Firs Primary School, the children have started to get underway with the ambitious project and are learning positive skills that promote health and wellbeing with their efforts, providing a vibrant space for pupils to learn and play.

Martin Casserley, Head Teacher, commented: "It's a wonderful opportunity for the children to become involved in the design, planning and implementation of our garden improvements. The sense of ownership is obvious and we can't wait to see their ideas realised. It will add value to their learning experience and enhance our setting. We were delighted to be involved."

Launched in 2022, Stewart Milne Homes' Eco-Gardens Initiative provides funding for primary schools near some of its developments throughout Scotland and North West England.

The programme supports schools to purchase outdoor gardening equipment, materials and plants, which are used by pupils to renovate outdoor areas within their school grounds and importantly enhances the opportunity for children to learn outdoors. Stewart Milne Homes has also donated 30 high-vis jackets for the pupils to use when playing and gardening outdoors, which will be used year-round.

Janet Solan, Sales & Marketing Director at Stewart Milne Homes North West England, said: "At Stewart Milne Homes we are invested in the communities in which we develop, and this ethos has inspired our Eco-Gardens initiative. We're proud to create people-shaped places, and everything we do is designed to create a sense of belonging both in and around our developments."

"It was a pleasure to visit the staff and pupils at Black Firs Primary School along with Michelle Forster, Sales Consultant at Stewart Milne Homes, and see how their hard work will enhance their school garden space. We're continuing to work closely with our community schools to grow and develop our connection with local residents and help enhance their fantastic efforts to enhance their local neighbourhoods."

Astbury Park is a new community offering spacious two, three, four and five-bedroom family homes in the historic market town of Congleton. Ideally placed between the town and Radnor Wood, alongside the River Dane, Astbury Park retains open spaces throughout, reflecting its traditional English setting in mixed farmland and woodland.
