A Congleton primary school's wellness budget has been boosted with a four-figure donation.

Havannah Primary School is able to offer pupils more counselling, wellbeing and play therapy classes after receiving money from a housing developer.

The Malhamdale Road school has been backed handsomely by Welsh housebuilders Redrow.

Redrow are building new homes on Manchester Road near the school, a few minutes north west of Havannah Primary school.

Linked to the housebuilder's Congleton community fund, the school received £1,000 that will help them meet the increasing need for mental health support for children.

Debra Ball, business manager at the primary school, said: "Children may need counselling for all sorts of reasons. Life post-pandemic, bereavement, family unit separations, domestic violence or abuse or even moving to the UK as a refugee are just some circumstances that may result in children needing some support.

"We have a very limited budget for these specialist services, such as Cheshire Play Therapy or SWaNS (Supporting Wellbeing and Nurturing Strength), and have only been able to offer them to a very small group of children. The donation from Redrow means we will be able to open up the sessions to children who may not otherwise have benefitted."

Amanda Hollins, area sales manager at Redrow NW, said: "Positive mental health is so important whether you're five or 50 and giving children the tools to know it's something that can be talked about and there is help out there is so beneficial. Redrow is committed to the wellbeing of its workforce, dozens of our staff have been trained as Mental Health First Aiders to help support colleagues and subcontractors so we understand the benefits of being able to talk to someone."

Redrow's Congleton Roundhill Gardens development will bring a mix of three, four and five-bedroom properties.

It will be split into two phases – Blossoms and Woodlands.

Potential customers can explore a new customer experience suite that is digitally led, with interactive screens, showing site plans and local information including nearby schools and amenities.
