A power cut in Congleton resulted in 1349 customers temporarily losing supplies earlier today.

Within two minutes of losing power on their underground high voltage network, Western Power Distribution were able to restore supplies to 579 customers.

Engineers have restored all bar 27 customers and they are working to get the remaining supplies restored by 5.30pm.

A Western Power Distribution spokesperson told Nub News: "At the moment we cannot say what the cause of the fault was: our practice is to restore customers first and then investigate.

"We apologise for the inconvenience."
