Police officers who rushed into danger to save a man's life have received awards.

Last year, four officers responded to a 999 call from a woman reporting that a man had forced his way into her home in Biddulph and was attacking her husband with a knife.

The offender, 32-year-old Jordan Williamson from Congleton, was jailed for 23 years.

Staffordshire Police's Chief Constable Rebecca Riggs has now recognised PC Ryan Wood, PC Oliver Jones, PC Jesse Bostock and PC Stacie White for their 'outstanding work' with with the Chief Constable's Commendation Award.

Chief Constable Riggs said: "As police officers, we swear to protect the public and face danger, so others do not have to. However, few officers will encounter a threat of this magnitude in their career.

"Ryan, Oliver, Jesse and Stacie displayed exceptional bravery, professionalism and selflessness, confronting a knife‑wielding offender under the influence of drugs, in confined conditions.

"PC Ryan Wood in particular demonstrated remarkable courage in entering the address alone and intervening directly to stop the attack. His actions undoubtedly saved the victim's life and exemplify the highest standards of policing.

"All four officers are highly deserving of formal commendation for their outstanding bravery and exemplary conduct under extreme threat."

After Staffordshire Police received the 999 call, PC Ryan Wood was the first officer to arrive at the scene.

He was fully aware that an armed and dangerous man was inside, but he entered the house 'without hesitation'.

PC Wood used his PAVA spray on the man and physically forced the attacker away from the injured victim.

The offender then ran into a bathroom and tried to barricade himself inside while still armed with the knife.

PC Oliver Jones then arrived at the scene and helped PC Wood to stop the offender from closing the bathroom door, using only their police batons.

They also used PAVA spray to bring the man under further control.

PC Jesse Bostock then arrived and the trio of officers went into the bathroom and confronted the offender, managing to overpower him, disarm him, and get him in handcuffs and leg restraints.

PC Stacie White prioritised the victims and provided immediate care and reassurance to those inside the house.

In the investigation that followed, Staffordshire Police found that the offender was 32-year-old Williamson, from Congleton.

He was under the influence of drugs at the time and broke into the home completely unprovoked.

Meanwhile, his victim suffered multiple stab wounds and has since expressed his gratitude for the actions of the attending officers.

He said: "I am really pleased that the officers have been recognised for their bravery.

"Without them acting so decisively I have no doubt that I would not be here today."
