Police are investigating a burglary at a building society in Congleton.

At around 3.30am on Saturday (June 21), police were called to reports of an alarm activation at Nationwide on Bridge Street.

Upon arrival, officers found that unknown offender had gained access to the building via a first floor window.

CCTV footage showed the offender searching the premises before fleeing the scene empty-handed.

However, at 4.26am on Tuesday (June 23), police were called to reports of a break in at the same location.

On this occasion, officers confirmed that unknown offenders had forced entry into the building via a fire escape.

It is not yet known if anything was stolen.

Enquiries in relation to the two incidents are ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to get in touch.

Detective Sergeant Laura Fox, from Macclesfield CID, said: "Enquiries in relation to these incidents are in the early stages and we are doing all we can to identify the people responsible.

"As part of our investigation I'm keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of either of the incidents and believes that they may have seen anything suspicious.

"I'd also ask residents in the area to check their CCTV or video doorbell footage to see if they have anything which may aid our investigation.

"The same goes for any motorists with any dashcam footage."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire police on 101 or online here, quoting IML 2115952.

Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
