Cheshire Police have confirmed that the fire at a building in Congleton town centre was started deliberately.

Nub News reported that shortly after 4.30pm on Sunday 17th May fire crews discovered a fire on the second floor of the property on West Street. The roof has been damaged in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and residents with any information have been urged to contact the police.

Police officers found around 250 cannabis plants inside the same building just two days before a fire broke out.

Cheshire Police are investigating the discovery of the cannabis factory as well as the cause of the blaze.

However, it is not yet known whether the two incidents are linked.

If you have any information, call the police on 101 quoting IML 707108 or report it via their website.
