Plans have been submitted to transform a former electrical supply store in Congleton into a café and rentable studio spaces for a private medical clinic.

Cherry Tree Investments says the proposed changes for the building at The Meadows in Congleton will convert the property into a 'sophisticated and welcoming healthcare facility and café'.

The building has been empty since previous occupiers, Cheshire Electrical Supplies, relocated to new premises at Trade Park, Mountbatten Way, more than a year ago.

A design and access statement submitted by Arkhi Architects on behalf of Cherry Tree Investments states: "Our proposed design for the Fairmill Medical Clinic seeks to enhance the architectural coherence of the property.

"Building upon the existing Cheshire brick aesthetic, the clinic aims to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding mill-style structures while introducing contemporary elements to create an engaging and cohesive design."

The planning document says the first floor will see a new layout for the medical clinic studios.

It continues: "The proposed café is strategically positioned to cater to the local theatre, the Riverside and Meadowside offices, and the community centre across the road, making it a convenient and inviting stop along the route to the park, fostering community engagement and enhancing the overall neighbourhood experience."

There will be a new entrance layout for both the café and private medical services.

The document concludes: "Beyond meeting the requirements of a private medical clinic, the revitalised building will contribute to the local community by housing a welcoming café."

The application, number 23/4830C, can be viewed on the planning portal on the Cheshire East Council website.

The last date for submitting comments is January 26 and the application is due to be determined by a planning officer under delegated authority.
