Manchester Piccadilly will be partially closing for nine days in February 2026 so that 'once in a generation' upgrades can be carried out.

In less than a month, from Saturday, February 14, until Sunday, February 22, stations one to 12 will be closed while signalling and track repairs take place to the south of the station, along the Ardwick Corridor.

Although platforms 13 and 14 will remain open for limited westbound services, there will be no services stopping at Piccadilly from the south and east of the city.

Services normally running to and from Manchester Piccadilly will terminate at other stations, including Stockport.

Network Rail, which manages Britain's railway network, said the work will involve upgrading railway sleepers, replacing 11 sets of points, and renewing 9,000m of cabling along the southern approach to the station.

The company said the upgrades would result in a 'huge boost to reliability' for services to and from the station.

Rebecca Rathore, Network Rail's North West route strategy director, said: "We are a month away from our £7.9m investment to renew the Piccadilly corridor, a stretch of track critical to the journeys of around 400,000 trains into Manchester every year. 

"This work is going to significantly reduce disruption for the many passengers who regularly use this route. Once the job is done, we will have a better, more reliable railway. 

"The major overhaul over six railway lines can only take place during a full railway closure and we have worked closely with train operators, TfGM and Manchester City Council to develop an alternative travel plan that will keep people on the move.
