New supermarket and community hub almost ready to welcome first customers
A new supermarket is opening in Congleton.
Central Co-Op are almost ready to welcome customers to their newest store, on Manchester Road.
They say it will be much more than just a shop, with a community notice board, bike repair station and a coffee shop also included in the plans.
Kenny Keys, property project delivery manager for the Congleton store, said: "We're thrilled to be opening the new Central Co-op shop on Manchester Road and becoming part of the Congleton community.
"The new store is designed to be more than just a place to shop – it's a community hub where members and the community can gather, enjoy quality food and drinks, and access essential services.
"With a modern design and community-focused features, including a map of the area on one of the internal walls, we hope the store will become a much-loved local destination"
The Manchester Road Central Co-Op is set to open on Friday, January 24.
Formerly a data centre, the site has undergone an extensive remodel, including a new roof, internal dividing walls, an overclad of the building, and resurfacing of the car park.
The shop creates 16 jobs and will feature a food-to-go-area, complete with drinks machines and hot food, for those on the go.
There will also be customer toilets, a community notice board, a free bike repair station and pet parking.
A coffee shop will also open at the store, although an opening date for this is yet to be confirmed.
The store will have parking spaces for 16 cars, including two disabled bays and six EV charging points to be installed in the near future.
