A National Trust attraction has been forced to shut due to high winds.

Little Moreton Hall will be closed to visitors on Sunday (November 22), the National Trust has announced.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind, covering large parts of the country.

Gusts of 50 to 60mph are expected in the area on Sunday, leaving the Tudor manor house on Newcastle Road with no choice but to close.

A spokesperson for Little Moreton Hall said: "Due to the forecasted high winds going over our maximum safety threshold, Little Moreton Hall will unfortunately be closed to staff, volunteers and visitors on Sunday, December 22.

"The safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors is our top priority.

""Many thanks for your understanding.

"Take care and stay safe, and we wish you a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year. We'll see you on the other side."

The Met Office has warned that the strong winds will likely lead to some disruption over the weekend, especially to travel.

"Strong and gusty northwesterly winds are expected to develop on Sunday," reads the national weather service's website.

"Gusts of 50-60 mph are expected quite widely, and around some exposed coasts and hills of gusts 70 mph are possible, especially in the north and west.

"In addition, squally showers are likely with some hail and thunder possible in places.

"This has the potential to cause delays to public transport and some disruption to the road network, which may have a greater than usual impact given the busier pre-Christmas weekend travel."
