One of the world's fastest-growing sports is coming to Congleton

Game Set Match Padel (GSM) has shared more details of its plans for an indoor padel club off Holmes Chapel Road.

It comes after plans were submitted to Cheshire East Council to transform a storage unit, previously utilised by Youngs Animal Feeds, into an indoor sports facility with three courts.

A social media post shared by GSM reads: "More than just courts, we're creating a place to connect and stay behind to socialise with existing and new friends made on the court.

"This project is entirely funded and owned by Congleton lads born and bred, with no input from large investors or private equity firms; this is a community coming together to build something special. And we can't wait to open the doors and share it with you."

While planning permission hasn't yet come through, groundworks are expected to get underway this week.

It is hoped that the courts will ready to open in time for the new year, with a launch date of January 3 pencilled in.

But that is only the start for GSM.

The company's directors, listed on Companies House as Jack Whiston-Rowe and Conor Wilkins, are already eyeing up 'phase two' of the project, which will see the addition of outdoor courts.

They then have a 'five-year vision' to open three 'like-minded' padel clubs locally.

GSM Padel's website adds: "We are proudly community driven, committed to continuous improvement and quality for all players who love the sport.

"That's why we are going to reinvest the majority of our revenue directly into enhancing our facilities, whilst developing padel in other counties close to home."

Alongside the courts, GSM Congleton will feature a café/bar and a club shop.

They will offer coaching, socials and competitions, all of which can be booked through the 'Playtomic' app.

Once ready, the club will be open 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 9pm on weekends.
