A major road is currently closed due to a HGV loaded with timber toppling over.

At around 12.30pm firefighters from Congleton and Macclesfield were dispatched to reports of a one vehicle collision on Buxton Road.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On arrival at the scene crews found a HGV loaded with timber which was on its side and the driver was medically trapped in the cabin.

"Firefighters removed the windscreen to release the casualty, they were then passed to the care of paramedics."

The A54 Congleton Road is currently closed in both directions as a result of the incident and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

UPDATE 3:08PM

The A536 Congleton Road is currently being reopened to help congestion between Macclesfield and Congleton due to the ongoing incident.
