Local Liberal Democrats in the Congleton Constituency say Liz Truss's resignation today wasn't unexpected.
And they are now calling on the Conservatives to bring stability back to the country and let people have their say on who should be the next Prime Minister.
Cllr Philip Williams, Chair of Congleton Constituency Liberal Democrats said: "'This is the second time this year we've sent the resignation of a British Prime Minister.
"It is unprecedented, unsettling and unpleasant. Nobody likes to see anyone fall on their sword.
"I was struck by President Macron of France's very measured comment, that he hopes the UK finds stability and that he never likes to see the departure of a colleague. It is sad to see a career collapse whatever the political party involved.
"The downfall of Truss wasn't unexpected, of course, any more than that of her predecessor. It shows what happens when governments ignore the Office of Budgetary Responsibility and sane economics.
Liz Truss who resigned today (Thursday).
"In one fell swoop the Conservatives have lost their reputation for fiscal responsibility and have shown more U-bends than Snake Pass. It's a car crash.
"I do hope that some semblance of order can be restored and if the Conservatives cannot run the country properly they will have the good grace to let the people have their say at the polls."
