A Congleton author is preparing for the release of his 8th novel.

Paul Bernardi's The Reckoning hits the shelves later this month, completing the Rebellion trilogy.

The series documents the North of England's resistance to Norman invaders in the years 1067-69, culminating in the infamous Harrying of the North in which around 100,000 people died.

Paul, who is club secretary at Congleton RUFC, said: "Though this is my eighth book, publication day never ceases to be an incredible feeling.

"I hope readers enjoy this latest installment of gritty, fast-paced, action-packed Anglo-Saxon adventure."

Citing a love of history that began at school with a project on the history of Roman Britain, Paul now writes novels on a full time basis, having recently hung up his corporate spurs after a 34 year career in IT and finance.

This is his 8th novel in as many years, beginning in 2018 with a Second World War espionage mission inspired by secret files released to the public after 50 years.

Since then, Paul has reverted to more familiar ground in writing historical fiction set in the late Anglo-Saxon and early Norman period.

This includes the Huscarl Chronicles trilogy which focussed on a young warrior coming of age on the battlefields of Stamford Bridge and Hastings in 1066.

His latest book, The Reckoning, will be published in eBook form on Friday, February 13, with paperback copies available the following week.
