An intentional burning at a farmer's field in Congleton which was left unattended had to be extinguished by firefighters.

At around 2:50pm yesterday (Sunday) firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a field in Lomas Way, Congleton. One fire engine from Macclesfield attended.

On arrival the crew found a fire involving three bales of straw in a farmer's field.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "It was a case of intentional burning that had been left unattended."

Firefighters extinguished the fire with a hose reel jet and then damped the area down to make it safe.
