Firefighters dealt with a "difficult" chimney fire in Astbury last night.

Shortly before 7pm firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a residential address on Newcastle Road in Astbury.

Crews from Congleton and Alsager were dispatched to the scene and on arrival they found a chimney fire which was "well alight" and causing "heavy smoke logging".

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building and used a hose reel jet, specialist chimney rods and a hearth kit to tackle the fire from within the building.

"The crews also used a 13.5 metre ladder to examine the chimney from outside and a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots."

Firefighters were detained at the address for around two hours.
