A dog was not adversely effected by a fire at a Congleton flat that was caused by a dishwasher.
At around 7.30am this morning (Thursday) firefighters received a report of a fire at an occupied flat in Bath Vale, Congleton.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On arrival crews discovered that smoke alarms were sounding, only a dog was inside the property and the fire involved a dishwasher.
"The dog was taken outside and did not seem to have been adversely effected by the fire."
The gas and electricity supplies to the flat were isolated and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire with a hose reel jet.
Once the fire was out a large fan was used to clear the flat of smoke.
Firefighters also removed the dishwasher from the flat and arranged for someone who lives at the address to come home.
Once they were satisfied that the flat was safe they handed the incident over to the occupier.
Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour and a half. Three fire engines attended, one from Congleton, Macclesfield and Alsager.
