Congleton Town Council is investigating replacing the town hall boilers with an eco-friendly system.

The swap is just one of a number of ideas being considered to reduce the building's carbon footprint following the town council declaring a Climate Emergency in September 2019 and setting a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2025.

"Hero Renewables of Middlewich...visited the town hall to offer advice on renewable energy and how we could reduce our carbon footprint using this technology," explains a council report.

"Discussions are ongoing, however initial ideas included the replacement of the existing boilers with an air source heat pump system.

"Hero Renewables will be providing a quote and figures to back up the reduction of our carbon footprint based on this technology."

In addition, Barry Speed - a member of the Congleton Green Working Group set up by the town council after declaring the Climate Emergency - has also been helping with ongoing work to reduce the town hall's carbon footprint.

"This includes cataloguing of all cleaning products and chemicals used within the town hall and paddling pool to ascertain if there are more environmentally-friendly products available," adds the report.

Reducing consumption and environmentally-friendly purchasing are key to the town council's carbon neutral ambition.
