The wait is over for Congleton's pub quiz lovers who need their brain-teaser fix as the Beartown Tap will be hosting a Virtual Quiz tonight!

The pub, located on Willow Street, decided to shut its doors on the 19th March before Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered pubs, restaurants and bars to close.

Sam Ross, director and owner of The Beartown Tap, told Nub News that their traditional pub quiz was held on Wednesday nights and they wanted to recreate a pub atmosphere for their loyal customers.

Mr Ross said that 250 people had expressed interest in the virtual quiz, which would be the biggest return yet if everyone who was keen participated. Usually the pub gets 80 to 100 contestants, which is the pubs full capacity.

Mr Ross added: "Quite a lot of our customer base is elderly, and we have a lot of people who just turn up for the quiz, so we wanted to show them that we're thinking about them in these difficult times.

"It will be nice for the staff to see some familiar faces and to have that human interaction that everybody is probably craving right now."

Sam stated that depending on how tonight's event went there could be further quizzes held during the lockdown.

The quiz starts at 8pm and is expected to run until around 10pm.

Quizmaster Ed Snook will ask members to create teams as a household and sit around a table with their laptop or tablet.

Just before the quiz, teams will need to join THIS MEETING: https://zoom.us/j/9295401394 and type their team name when prompted.

Ed will present 9 quiz rounds with mini games thrown in for good measure after each round.

Participants should ideally join the quiz from a laptop/desktop computer with audio capability and access to broadband, so that they can view the quiz screen in detail. iPads/Tablets should also work.

Players may be prompted to install the Zoom web application, so it's recommended to join 15 minutes before the start of the quiz.

The winners will win a digital prize.
