Coronavirus Round-up: Congleton's Businesses and Pubs
The state of play with Congleton's pubs and businesses is changing every day due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Pubs and restaurants in Congleton have been given the green light by the Government to legally sell hot food takeaway during the coronavirus outbreak.
Here at Nub News we wanted to update the community on what's happening in their town.
Bear Grills Café, on Market Street, have announced today that they will close until further notice.
Owner Mark Winder posted on Facebook: "We shall close after business today and keep everyone updated when we shall reopen.
"We had looked into a delivery service but we don't feel that will benefit customers or staff in any way other than to pay a few bills. Health is far more important.
"Having spoken to a dozen or so elderly and vulnerable people customers over the past few days it's become clear that if we remain open they will continue to come.
"The only way to get them to stay at home for their own sakes is to close the café and deny them a reason to come out. No amount of conversation will convince them otherwise!!
"Thankyou to all our lovely customers who have supported us through this difficult time. Hopefully we will be in a position to reopen some time soon."

Cheshire Tavern, on West Road, announced yesterday that they had to make the hard decision and temporarily close their kitchen.
Matt and Adam posted on their Facebook page: "We will still be open as a pub following government guidelines and will give updates as and when we receive them.
"We thank everybody for the support people have given us over the last few weeks it has been amazing. We just now need to wait it out and encourage a speedy recovery for everyone affected.
"We will still do our best to supply free meals to at risk people in the community."

Glebe Farm is currently open as usual, and they have introduced a new delivery service where you can order from our farm shop for delivery to your home.
Call the farm shop on 01260 273916 to place your order. They will call you back to confirm and take payment. They'll deliver to you on the next delivery day.
They have: Milk, Eggs, Bread, Pasta, Rice, Flour, Cheese and Fruit and vegetables.
Delivery charge is a nominal £1 per order, delivery within a 3-mile radius. Delivery days are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Bare Health, on the High Street, are still open and for anyone self-isolating in the local area, they are happy to take orders by phone (minimum £20 spend applies).
Owner Melanie Ratcliffe said: "We will deliver as soon as we are able but ask you to be patient and bear with us during this time of unprecedented demand.
"For all of you who are supporting local business such as ourselves. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts it's only with your continued support that small local business will continue to trade during this time of huge uncertainty.
"We will of course keep trading whilst we are able and keep our stock coming whilst we are able to get deliveries from our suppliers.
"A few of our lovely customers have very kindly offered to help with deliveries. If any of you are able to help with deliveries, should the need arise, then we will very gratefully accept any help you are able to offer."

Wayne Doyle, owner of Bojangles on Bridge Street, posted on Facebook confirming that they had teamed up with Age UK and were going to be one of their trusted associates.
Mr Doyle said: "Ok we know now the situation is worsening by the day we have to stay positive and focused we know the problem so we can concentrate on the solution.
"Yes, I'd like Bojangles to get through these hard times but more importantly we need to look after our older and more vulnerable people who are going to struggle on their own.
"So, we are going to be offering our food for home delivery as soon as possible, a menu will be available soon.
"This gives Bojangles the opportunity to keep trading and in turn help those who need it.
"In short we will be feeding a number of the more vulnerable people free of charge and making sure that they have good wholesome food delivered to them.
"So, if you are in self quarantine or know people that are, we will soon have a menu, which will be at the best possible price and delivered to your door.
"Included in the cost of every four meals will be the cost of a meal for one of our local vulnerable people."

Reubens restaurant on Lawton Street, stated that they would stay open for as long as the government allows them too.
They posted on Facebook: "We have a five-star hygiene rating in all of our sites and are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of our customers.
"Touch points are being cleaned throughout the day and we ask that you pay by card and try to avoid using cash.
"For customers who are self-isolating please remember that we do offer a takeaway service this is currently collection only (so get your friends and neighbours to pop in for you).
"We are looking into the possibility of a delivery service over the coming days.
"Thank you for your support during these difficult times."

Crema Deli on Bridge Street have made the decision to offer a delivery service during these times to offer a piece of mind to customers who are wanting our goods but are unable or afraid to venture out.
From today, they will be taking orders from 7am - 11am for delivery the same day. Any orders later will be delivered the following day.
For now, it will be only Monday - Friday, if they can accommodate Saturdays in the future, they will let the community know.
There will be no extra delivery charge so the prices you know are the prices you will pay.
The Crema team said: "As our stock is constantly changing and rotating, we will separate items as and when they are ordered to not cause disappointment. So, stock will be subject to availability.
"At the moment we will be only taking phone orders to not cause any confusion amongst our staff.
"Payments can be taken via card over the phone or paid cash on delivery.
"The delivery service will consist of just deli items only for now.
"On the phone we will talk you through what items we have, kind of cakes, pies, salads, breads etc so don't be alarmed if you cannot remember all of our items.
"We will try and carry this delivery service on until if or when we are forced to close."
Minimum delivery orders will be £15. Delivery service will only be based around the local Congleton area.

The Forum Chinese Restaurant on Worrall Street has made the decision to offer only takeaway collections and deliveries until further notice.
Deliveries are subject to a three-mile radius, and delivery charges have been waived for the time being.
Payments can be made over the phone for deliveries or via contactless if they are collected to minimise any physical interactions.
The restaurant posted on Facebook: "This decision has been made based on the advice of the government, and on the safety of both our staff and customers.
"We hope to return to normal asap and urge everyone to stay safe during this testing time."

The Egerton Arms on Peel Lane, Astbury, remains open.
They posted on social media: "As we are all aware, the situation regarding the Coronavirus is an ongoing concern for everyone.
"We would like to reassure our customers we are taking constant specialist advice and acting on this. We have added to our strict hygiene practices to ensure the safety of our team and customers.
"We look forward to seeing you at your next visit and thank you for your continued support."

Gather of Cheshire, on the High Street remain open and have said if you would prefer your coffee in a take-out cup or your own reusable then just ask.

The Lower Heath Chip Shop is open as normal and are taking steps to reduce any risk of infection.
The team said: "We are implementing the use of gloves for all of our staff members.
"As we are a 5* rated food and hygiene chip shop and always keep the highest level of cleanliness.
"But we want to assure the customers that we sanitise all work surfaces both customer and staff side for your safety.
"We offer a delivery service on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. So, if you are self-isolating or not, we welcome you to take full advantage of this.
"We have always asked customer to help support their local businesses, and we hope that this carries on during the time it is most needed."

Cuttleford Farm Shop on Newcastle Road are still very much open for business and hope to stay that way. They have plenty of fresh produce, dairy produce, meat etc.
They have offered to deliver locally for any older or vulnerable customers who may need to stay at home due to the virus. Call 01260 272499.

The Beartown Tap on Willow Street has assured the community that they are doing everything we can in accordance with official government guidelines and (as always) maintain the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene.
Their food hygiene rating has recently been reviewed and they were again awarded 5*.
The Tap Team said: "Cleanliness has always been a top priority for us and we have introduced additional measures to ensure the pub remains a safe and welcoming place to relax.
"The health and safety of our team and customers is our utmost priority and we are taking precautions, following safety guidelines and we are prepared for further action if necessary.
"We will continue to trade, and our doors remain open as usual, we hope you will continue to drink with us in confidence unless otherwise directed to do so. We also hope you will continue to support all the small local businesses to whom your custom is so important."

DV8 on Little Street, will remain open until otherwise stated by the government.
They have takeaway available for collection or delivery. Minimum spend £20 and payment must be made over the phone.
Call 01260 278553 to order. Their takeaway menu is available for collection only from 12pm today, they will start deliveries from 5pm this evening.
The team posted on Facebook: "We are a small local business and appreciate that everyone is worried about visiting bars and restaurants at this current time, however, this is our livelihood and financially we need to stay open.
"We have our customers and staff's best interests at heart, and we can assure you that all measures are in place to regularly sanitise contact surfaces and have at least 2 metres distance between each table."

Bonds Bakery on Biddulph Road are working with their suppliers to ensure that they have enough stock of ingredients to continue providing freshly baked bread, bakery goods and home roasted meats every day.
David and Alison Bond said: "There will be goods on sale each day, but in the coming weeks it may be necessary to limit purchases depending on the availability of flour and other ingredients.
"To help us with numbers we would really appreciate it if our customers would consider placing orders in advance rather than just calling in.
"This would be a great help to us and would also avoid disappointment and wasted journeys."

The Queens Head pub on Park Lane, is still open but they are no longer accepting cash payments and would encourage contactless payments including Apple pay where possible.
Compulsory hand washing has been introduced before entering the pub or taking a table in the beer garden.

The Olde Kings Arms, Congleton, The Waggon and Horses, Eaton, and Church House, Buglawton, are all other pubs that remain open too.
However, the Coronavirus outbreak has resulted in some businesses closing for the foreseeable future or even worst announcing they will be shutting permanently.
The Young Pretender on Lawton Street took the difficult decision to temporarily close its doors.
The Young Pretender team posted on social media yesterday saying: "As a business, we have always tried to support the communities in which we operate and in the interests of public safety and our duty of care to our team, customers and the people of Congleton, we have been left with no alternative.
"Our priority has to be to protect our fantastic team and loyal customers. We would urge all our customers to take the necessary precautions to protect their own and their families' health and look forward to seeing you all back at the bar again very soon."

The Four Friends Restaurant on Mill Street has taken the difficult but "inevitable decision" to limit the restaurant's activities for the foreseeable future.
For the coming months, we will be offering our menu as takeaway only in the evenings from 5-10pm (except Mondays).
The Four Friends team posted on social media yesterday stating: "This is the only way we can see to keep operating on some level.
"The health and safety of our customers is top priority but we ourselves as a small family run restaurant also can't afford to risk our health and livelihood, especially with our 11-month-old baby.
"We appreciate this is a difficult time for everyone in the community and we are sorry that we are unable to offer food delivery.
"At this moment, our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are vulnerable. Please think of us if you want to support small businesses in the meantime."

Damand Boutique on Swan Bank announced yesterday that they would be closing.
In a social media post, they said: "It's been a hard year for the High street and now with the Coronavirus looming over us we cannot afford to take another hit so we will be closing our doors over the next two weeks .
"All stock will be greatly reduced, and everything must go.
"Thank you to all our lovely customers over the last 5 years and for those of you who still want to buy Damand Boutique online will be available."
Tesco in Congleton will not be open for 24 hours - but this is seen as a temporary measure.
From today, the store will open from 6am-10pm in a bid to help replenish stocks after days of panic buying.
Their shelves were noticeably short of stock on Tuesday evening.
