Police have warned of the dangers that out of control dogs can cause to livestock after a sheep was killed on a Congleton farm over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Sunday after an owner lost control of his dogs and they attacked the animal.

Writing on the Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team Facebook page yesterday (22 June), PC Clark said: "I make no apologies for the images, this is a reality of some livestock attacks.

"First job out of the office for the day. A visit to a local farm with regards to a livestock attack yesterday."

The officer explained: "Whilst this attack wasn't as a result of a walker in an unfamiliar area it was however that of an owner not in control of his dogs."

A police spokesperson did not reveal exactly where in Congleton the incident took place and only confirmed that it happened on a farm in the area.

The spokesperson told Nub News that the owner of the dogs has been spoken to by officers and "the matter is being progressed".

While there is no explanation of exactly what happened in this incident, PC Clark wrote in the Facebook post: "The unpredictable nature of any animal and the lack of precautions you take for safe containment of your animal raises the chances of escape from your home/garden."

He added: "We WILL prosecute where we have sufficient evidence to do so."
