The Congleton Tree of Light in the Community Garden will be illuminated on Saturday, 5th December, when the first of the stars will be hung around the tree.

Rotarian Rod Goodier, who has organised the tree this year, is "worried" because of lockdown, it may not be possible to make an event of the switch-on this year.

However, he hopes that with lockdown ending on December 2nd, it may be possible to mark the switch-on in some limited way.

Regardless of the pandemic, he hopes that residents will visit the tree to view their messages.

Everyone purchasing a star online has been sent an acknowledgment by email and shown a photograph of their star.

Stars may still be bought online and stars will continue to be hung around the tree until Christmas.

Rtn Goodier said: "So far, many people buying stars have replied to our emails expressing their thanks and gratitude for the initiative.

"Next year, in more normal times, Rotary-Congleton hopes to make more of an event around the tree and the switch-on."
