Congleton: Thundestorms across five hours tomorrow in yellow weather warning

Brace yourselves: Congleton is set to be awash with heavy rain to thunder and lightning on Thursday.

While the morning will start off easy at a cloudy 18C, and even a crack of sun at 11am, this slice of heaven will not compare to the recent great weather of the past few days.

And the sun will be short-lived, as the Met Office says thunderstorms may start in Congleton from 12pm.

They will continue throughout Thursday afternoon until 5pm, with some respite of no rain from 2-4pm.

Certainly, if you are planning to head out for your lunch break at 12 or 1pm in Congleton, you may want to bring your big coat.

The temperature will peak at 21C tomorrow, before the final round of storms at 4pm to 5pm.

Rain will continue into the early evening, before a dry end to the day from 7pm.

The extreme weather will then cease, but it will not be without consequences.

The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather warning for our town.

This means heavy showers and thunderstorms on Thursday have the potential to bring surface water flooding in a few places, and disruption to travel.

There is a small chance that Congleton homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

There is a small chance that some rural communities outside of Congleton could temporarily become cut off by flooded roads.

Be safe out there Congleton.
