14 more people are employed in Congleton as a new Screwfix has opened in town.

Previously, Congletonians would have to travel to Holmes Chapel or Macclesfield to visit the national tool-selling chain, but now there is one in our town on Mountbatten Way.

The new Screwfix store is part of the company's growing network of over 800 stores across the UK and Ireland, bringing the hardware retailer even closer to busy tradespeople.

Congleton Town Mayor Cllr Margaret Gartside, together with the new Congleton branch manager, Chris Cheers officially opened the doors this morning.

The Store Manager, Chris Cheers, said: "We chose to open a new store in Congleton to better meet the needs of the local tradespeople and we're delighted to bring Screwfix greater convenience.

"Our celebration period runs from Thursday 29 September and throughout the weekend until Sunday 2nd October. We have received fantastic support from the local community and are looking forward to welcoming and helping more tradespeople and serious DIYers over the coming months."

Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside, was also present to attend the big opening on Friday 30th September, commenting: "It's great to see a big brand like Screwfix investing in Congleton. The opening of the new branch has created local job opportunities and will serve the town's busy tradespeople with an extensive product range and flexible and convenient service. I would like to wish Chris and his team every success in their new store."

As well as what you'd expect from the company, the store hopes to stand out in the community by having charity fundraising opportunities.

Congleton local registered charities are welcome to apply for funding from The Screwfix Foundation by visiting Congleton Screwfix branch to pick up a Screwfix Foundation leaflet in-store for more information. You can also find and submit an application form on this link.

Most of the parking spaces from the building's previous incarnation as an Aldi supermarket remains.

The shop is open all week-long from Monday to Friday 7am to 8pm. The store is also open on weekends from 8am-6pm on Satutrday, and 9am to 4pm on Sunday.

Expect the store to be busy from the word go, with the significant amount of new houses being built in our town.
