A Congleton pet food business is celebrating an expansion with a new shop across town.

Jo Kehoe of K9 Raw Cheshire sells a large selection of cat and dog treats and supplements.

K9 Raw Cheshire moves from a premesis on Swan Bank to Worrall street, which comes with upwards of 30 car parking spaces and a roomier store.

Jo use to work for the ambulance service until 2017, and then opened menswear business David James on Swan Bank, before starting K9.

During lockdown she decided to open up a pet food shop with an emphasis on raw food, after her dog Rodney fell ill with stomach issues, but recovered on a more natural diet.

"Don't look at it as raw, look at it as feeding your dog a natural diet rather than processed foods," said Jo.

"Raw is not about just throwing a chicken leg at your dog or a steak straight into the bowl. It has got to be balanced right.

"We all love our dogs, so we should we want them to have the best diet possible."

Jo moved into her new premises last week, which used to be a caravan business.

Popular products sold by K9 Raw Cheshire includes raw pork from Manifold Valley Meat near Leek, and frozen fish or meat combinations.

The dog-mum-of-three will start doing local deliveries in the near future, serving one area each month e.g Congleton, Alsager, Kidsgrove, Macclesfield.

The cost will be £4 for delivery, and be delivered by Jo with a personal touch.

"The benefits of our new store over our old one is more space, more stock, and a big walk-in freezer," she added.

"We've got more variety of brands as well. But I cannot emphasise enough that the biggest benefit is the massive carpark, because then people can buy more stuff or put the heavier stuff straight into their car.

"New products we are stocking here for the first time include Fish4Dogs and Ingenious Probiotics for Dogs.

"We sell toys as well, and of course your dogs are welcome in the store.

"Round this area, the stores similar to me that specialise in raw are in Leek and Crewe. So in the near future, I'd love to get the majority of dogs in Congleton on a really good diet, and not a processed diet.

"I know people can't afford a full raw food diet, but anything you can add to a kibble that is fresh, even if it is fish, or a little bit of cooked vegetables, raw eggs, anything fresh makes a difference.

"We've got loads of things coming out for Christmas. We do gift hampers, last year we started a dog treat advent calendar that are handmade by myself."

K9 Raw Cheshire is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, apart from a Thursday where the doors are open for an hour longer until 6pm.

The Congleton canine and cat-oriented company is closed on a Sunday.

"My customers have loved the new store. And I'm looking forward to meeting some new ones as well," concluded Jo.

"I love working here it is my passion. I love dogs so much. And also seeing dogs come in with skin issues come in, who then develop into really healthy dogs.

"Hopefully when the Leisure Centre reopens we will become a great street for footfall as well."
