A CASE can be made for Congleton being recognised as the birthplace of the Women's Equality Party. It was there during the 2019 local elections that Kay Wesley was voted in as the first councillor in the UK to represent the WEP.

Others have followed around the country and tomorrow, as the bandwagon gathers pace with the 2023 local elections only five months away, Kay and another WEP trailblazer, Susie Mead, are the guests on my Congleton Radio chat show, "Tim's Talk-In".

In May Kay hopes she will also be elected to Cheshire East Council and that Susie, whose expert and tireless work for the residents of Bromley Farm have made her a legend in the Congleton community, will join Kay on the town council.

There are links below revealing the hard yards Kay has put in as a councillor. Tomorrow you can hear both women talk on the chat show about a variety of subjects, including a crisis in child care funding and staggeringly high levels of sexual violence and domestic abuse.

Kay also describes the sexist way another councillor once spoke to her ahead of Congleton councillors going into a meeting with the East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce.

What he said amounted to him suggesting Kay's role in the proceedings was going to amount to that of a dolly bird looking great for chatting up businessmen.

This councillor was clearly unaware Kay once raised 40 million dollars when she floated a UK company on the NASDAQ stock market in New York. Oh dear!

Not everybody responsible for the welfare of Bromley Farm residents is as popular as Susie Mead. That is a subject my chat show will be investigating shortly before the local elections in May.

This will present both sides of what has been a long running saga of controversy, anger and bitterness and will give Congleton voters up to date information to help decide which candidate to vote for.

Meanwhile "Tim's Talk-In" goes online three times tomorrow (Friday December 16) at 12.0 noon, 6.0pm and 10pm.

You can hear the station at congletonradio.net or by enabling the Congleton Radio skill on Amazon Alexa . . . or downloading any of the Congleton Radio Apps from their home page or from the Google Playstore.

You can also search for Congleton Radio, click on the link and click again on the white arrow top left.

The picture here was taken at a protest in Congleton led by the Women's Equality Party against MP Fiona Bruce's removal of women's reproductive rights from an international treaty.

It attracted support from Labour, Lib Dems and the Greens plus many protestors with no affiliation to any political party.

So what has Kay done for women in Congleton? If you can spare just under two minutes, watch this video.

What has she done for Congleton residents in general? The next time you have a coffee break, that is documented here. It's a lot:
