Congleton Town Council and neighbouring parish councils will be approaching local businesses to discuss sponsoring six new roundabouts, which are all gateways into the town.
The new Congleton Link Road will have six roundabouts which fall under neighbouring parish councils' boundaries, but not under the boundary of Congleton Town Council.
There have been some initial discussions with Cheshire East Council to establish how the new roundabouts will be presented and maintained.
Congleton Town Council has been advised that the plans are to have the roundabouts just laid to grass and mown twice a year, similar to the grass verges residents see as you enter many of the towns in Cheshire East.
Speaking at Thursday's Congleton Town Council meeting of Town Hall, Assets & Services Committee, Ruth Burgess, streetscape development manager, confirmed that Congleton Town Council had met with two neighbouring parish councils to discuss the roundabout scheme.
Discussions included working together as a partnership in designing, funding or sponsoring the six roundabouts.
The neighbouring parish councils include Somerford, Hulme Walfield, Newbold Astbury cum Moreton and Eaton.
Somerford and Astbury have confirmed they would like to work alongside Congleton Town Council and they have now started the design process of their roundabouts, whilst identifying different sponsors and companies that could help pay for them.
Hulme Walfield Parish Council will be making a final decision at their next meeting, but Eaton Parish Council have withdrawn and declared they do not want to be included in the scheme.
On Eaton Parish Council's withdrawal, Mrs Burgess said: "It's a shame, but its nothing that we cannot sort ourselves and the town council will take on those roundabouts and seek sponsorship from local businesses."
The meeting was told the roundabout scheme would be completed this winter, with it all up and running by the end of March.
Mrs Burgess told councillors that parish councils had been informed they would have to submit a planning application to Cheshire East, which they would be charged for, if they wanted to implement a sponsorship sign on the roundabouts.
Cheshire East refer to the roundabouts based on their geographical location, which are as follows:
Moving from south to north:
- Wall Hill Roundabout (Astbury Parish Council)- Loach brook Roundabout (Somerford Parish Council)
- Radnor Roundabout (Somerford Parish Council)- Dane Valley Roundabout (Hulme Walfield Parish Council)
- Quarry Roundabout (Hulme Walfield Parish Council)- Eaton Bank Roundabout (Eaton Parish Council)
