Congleton Link Road: Road closures extended

Road closures at Sandy Lane and Giantswood Lane have been extended as work on the Congleton Link Road scheme continues.

As the Principal Contractor working with Cheshire East Council on the project, Graham have imposed an extension to the road closures.

Daniel Cawthra, Stakeholder and Communications Officer at Graham said: "The extension of the road closures has not been taken lightly and is due to the significant wet weather over the last 8 months, which have caused delays to critical works required to ensure the completion of the new link road."

It was anticipated that Sandy Lane would be re-opened to pedestrians and cyclists from Easter this year.

However, it will now remain closed for the duration of the scheme to enable the completion of the new carriageway and two roundabouts on Holmes Chapel Road and Sandbach Road.

The closure of Giantswood Lane has been extended to Friday 15th May 2020, which will enable the completion of the concrete works to the wingwalls and resurfacing the realigned carriageway across the bridge.

Signed diversion routes for vehicles are in place including a separate route for non-motorists affected by the Giantswood Lane closure.

Despite delays to these particular sections of the works, the Congleton Link Road scheme remains on schedule to be completed later this year.

Mr Cawthra added: "We are aware of the effect traffic disruption has on our neighbours and the local community and would like to thank all those affected by the inconvenience of the closures for your patience while we deliver this infrastructure programme.

"We will continue to communicate and engage with you during the works to ensure that any inconvenience is kept to a minimum."
