Congleton library launches new e-reading service

By Tom Avery 30th Mar 2021

Cheshire East Council has launched a new app which allows residents to read e-books and listen to audiobooks at any time.

By downloading the 'BorrowBox' app on their digital devices, people will be able to enjoy best-selling titles twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and it's all completely free to access through a library membership.

The collection covers a range of fiction and non-fiction titles for adults and a wide variety for children – suitable for those just learning to read right through to teenagers.

Paul Bayley, Cheshire East Council director of environment and neighbourhood services, said: "This is a very welcome boost for all our library members, who have been very patient while we have had to close the doors to our physical buildings.

"This new app means that residents are able to access books whenever is convenient for them, effectively creating a mobile library at just the touch of an electronic device.

"Clearly, we are very much looking forward to being able to reopen our library doors to the public, in what we hope will be two weeks' time.

"However, in the meantime, and well beyond 12 April, having this app at their fingertips will give residents greater control over what they can read and when they read it. It's a really positive development."

The new app – available to all library members – is ready to use now by visiting the council's website and following the download instructions, or by heading straight to the BorrowBox app available via Google play or the App Store.
