Discussions with the preferred contractor for the redevelopment of the Congleton Leisure Centre remain ongoing, but there is no confirmed date for the work to begin.
The £8m redevelopment scheme was due to start in January, but to date there has been no progress.
Congleton Nub News sought an update on the scheme from Cheshire East Council and queried what was causing the delay.
A Cheshire East Council spokesperson told Congleton Nub News: "The redevelopment of the Congleton Leisure Centre is a major scheme aimed at transforming the facilities into a modern, state-of-the-art sports and recreation hub for the town.
"Discussions with the preferred contractor are at a detailed stage and it would not be appropriate to comment on matters of a commercially sensitive nature.
"The council will keep residents informed of any updates at the appropriate time."
The plans include replacing the existing swimming pool with a new six-lane swimming pool, creating a new learner pool, community meeting spaces, a soft play area with café access and gym facilities over two floors.
However, the skatepark next to Congleton Leisure Centre, on Worrall Street, will be out of bounds during the forthcoming redevelopment of the leisure centre.
