Congleton: Heath View Residents Walk for NHS
Residents at a Congleton housing scheme for older people have taken inspiration from Captain Tom Moore's recent walking exploits and have embarked on their own challenge to raise money for the NHS.
The residents at Heath View are undertaking a sponsored walk around the garden after witnessing the amazing achievement of the 99-year-old veteran.
The walk began on Monday, with five residents each separately completing four laps of the garden - by Friday they hope to have walked 100 laps between them.
The residents are completing their walks at hourly intervals to make sure they comply with social distancing.
Workers at Heath View have made a playlist of walking-related songs including 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and The Proclaimers' '500 Miles' to keep the walkers going.
A resident from Heath View said: "We thought it would be a nice thing to do to help others. We will also benefit from the fresh air and exercise each day."
Wendy Townley, extra care manager at Plus Dane Housing, who run the scheme, said: "People in the community have been so kind and generous to us and we have received such good care from nurses, doctors and medical staff who are risking such a lot to look after us, that we wanted to do something for them in return.
"We saw Captain Tom doing his bit and thought we could do that too!"
Anyone who would like to donate to the cause can do so through the Just Giving page that has been set up.
All money raised will be donated to the NHS.
