A Congleton gym has opened a donation point for a nearby pet food bank.

Gymetc, located on Congleton's Barn Road, have decided to support a local charity which has opened what is believed to be Cheshire East's first pet food bank.

Last month, Cheshire East animal charity Windyway Trust have opened their pet food bank at their furniture stock house on Macclesfield's Crompton Road.

And Gymetc have been the first businesses to create a donation point outside the pet food bank's premises.

The gym situated near Alexandria Way has had a charitable streak this year.

Gymgoers may recall the boxes they collected and donated for Ukraine, an initiative so successful that it inspired this current one for our furry friends.

Gymetc Manager Jordan Pemberton was delighted to partner up with the good cause.

"We packed 67 boxes for Ukraine in 30 days", said Jordan.

"So we decided to see if we could do as well in getting donations for local cats and dogs.

"They will take anything from food to blankets, toys, tins whatever it may be.

"We are going to send the first lot to Windyways on July 1. So please get them in before then.

"Thanks to anyone who supports it."

You don't have to be a customer of the gym to donate, just hand in any pet-related goods at reception.

The Windyway Trust already do a lot for animals, running a rescue centre and two charity shops, but the pet food bank is the latest initiative to help out those struggling to pay for their pets.

Pet food bank Warehouse Supervisor Rebecca Ions came up with the idea, in response to the current cost of living crisis.

"The stocked shipping container unit, has food for dogs, cats and other small pets," said Rebecca.

"We've also got treats, bowls and coats if people need them as well.

"Thank you to Gymetc for reaching out to us, it was great to hear from them. We are very grateful for their support."

To access the food bank, all you need to do is fill in a form, which includes stating your reasons for using the service, such as the rising cost of living or unemployment. Just like a regular food bank.

The service is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10am-1pm, and open to Congleton residents.

"The response so far has been really positive", she added.

"Thank you again to anyone who has donated or will donate."

The Pet Foodbank can be found to the right of the Windyway Trust Centre on Crompton Rd, Macclesfield, SK11 8EH.

The Congleton donation point can be found at Gymetc, Barn Road, Congleton CW12 1LB.
