Firefighters were called following reports of large plumes of smoke and flames coming from Bosley Cloud.

One fire engine from Macclesfield arrived on Tunstall Road, Congleton, just before 6.30pm last night (Good Friday).

On arrival the crew found that the fire had already died down, but it measured around 8m x 5m and was still burning.

They used beaters and water backpacks to extinguish the flames, and checked the area for any other seats of fire.

The crew also dug up and turned over the soil to help put the fire out and, after around an hour and a half, it was fully extinguished.

It's not yet known how the fire was started.
