Congleton disability champion looks to inspire children with debut picture book

A Congleton resident is hoping to inspire children with a message of inclusion and self-acceptance.
Dr Deborah Lawson is eagerly awaiting the release of her debut picture book, Damson's Friendship Wish.
It tells the story of a young deer who longs to make friends but believes he must change to fit in.
Through a series of mishaps and acts of kindness he comes to realise he is already loved, just the way he is.
"I wrote this book for every child who's ever felt like they don't quite belong," said Dr Lawson.
"Damson's journey is about friendship, belonging and resilience, and it reminds children they are enough, just as they are."

Dr Lawson is a wheelchair user, author and disability inclusion consultant.
She has been nationally celebrated for her transformational work across various sectors and helped improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of disabled people across the UK.
Her work has earned her praise from the Prime Minister along with multiple awards including Woman of the Year, Person with Purpose, Woman of Courage and two Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Dr Lawson also received the Wellbeing Award at the inaugural Congleton Town Mayor's Civic Awards.
