A Congleton couple's dreams are about to come true.

The Peacock Emporium on High Street will open its doors for the first time on Saturday, October 3.

In doing so, it will see husband-and-wife team, David and Andrea Walker, achieve their long-term goal of having their own shop filled with antiques, vintage items and curios.

"We are so excited to open and can't wait to welcome everyone," said Andrea, 61.

"The support so far has been amazing. We've already had people popping their heads in to say hi and ask when we're opening!

"We want this shop to be about community as much as possible.

"The shop will have a unique mix of new and old, with crystals, candles and gothic items along with our vintage pieces and antiques.

"It'll be quirky and you'll find a few humorous things in there too!"

Andrea first delved into the world of antiques whilst caring for her mother, who was battling cancer.

She began purchasing odd bits and pieces as a way of helping to cope with the stress.

"My mother's dying wish was for me to have a go at selling," Andrea said.

Andrea then took over a unit at Dagfields Crafts & Antiques Centre near Nantwich and has been running the business from there for the past three years.

However, she always knew that one day she'd like to have a shop of their own.

After losing her stepdad last year, Andrea knew it was time to bite the bullet.

Andrea, who is also a medium and tarot reader, said: "I decided that I had to get fitter and lose weight or else I'd never realise my dream of having my own shop.

"Somebody said to us, you're meant to work to live not live to work and that struck a chord with me.

"Then, miraculously, this shop that I'd always hankered after came up for rent and here we are – our dreams are finally being realised.

"I'd have hated to get to the end of my life and regret that we never took the chance.

"I know my mum and dad and stepdad are willing us on!"

Andrea added: "I love Congleton!

"For years it didn't feel like home because my mum was back in Manchester.

"Now my caring duties are over, we have grown into the place and I love the architecture and the quirkiness of some of the buildings.

"I am so thankful that we have the opportunity to live and work here."

The Peacock Emporium will be located at 42 High Street.

Inside you will find a 'Congleton Collective Corner' showcasing the work of the town's crafters and creatives.

There will also be a book nook designed for neurodivergent people, providing a space to sit quietly, read, hold crystals and use sensory items.

On top of this, Andrea will be offering tarot card readings and fortune telling.
