Congleton charity donates emergency toiletry packs to East Cheshire NHS Trust
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 17th Aug 2026
Patients at East Cheshire NHS Trust will be able to freshen up thanks to a kind donation from a local charity.
The League of Friends recently visited Congleton War Memorial Hospital to drop off packs containing various toiletries, including toothpaste, a toothbrush, soap, body wash, tissues and a comb.
The packs will be used in emergencies or unexpected overnight stays at the hospital, as well as supporting patients at Macclesfield District General Hospital.
Dave Johnson, treasurer for the League of Friends, said: "As well as providing support to our two local hospitals through financial grants, when that support is needed, we also provide 'overnight kits' to the hospitals.
"These kits contain essentials for anyone having an unplanned stay at a hospital or hospice whether a patient or a visiting relative or friend.
"The kits contain basic essentials; a toothbrush and toothpaste, two disposable face cloths, comb, mini soap, shampoo sachet, shower gel sachet and tissues.
"We provide these in a recyclable bag that can be used again afterwards.
"The funding for these kits, as with our grant funding, are paid for by any surplus we make from our retail shop in Lawton Street Congleton."
Jo Hodgkinson, senior sister on the Aston Ward at Congleton War Memorial Hospital, said: 'We are very grateful to the Congleton league of Friends generous donation of comfort packs for our patients.
"The packs enable us to provide the care needed to patients, especially those without loved ones near by.'
"We have recently taken delivery of several packs which will make someone's stay that bit more comfortable."
