Residents are being urged to help tidy up the hospital.

Congleton in Bloom kicks off its 2026 Town Tidy programme this weekend with a special clean-up focused on the grounds of Congleton War Memorial Hospital.

From 10am to midday on Saturday, March 7, volunteers are invited to help enhance the hospital environment through gardening and planting, alongside litter picking in the surrounding streets.

Councillor David Brown, chair of Congleton in Bloom, said: "We believe that a clean and well-maintained environment not only enhances the look of our town but also fosters a real sense of pride and belonging among residents.

"By coming together as a community, we can create a lasting impact and inspire others to take ownership of their surroundings.

"We encourage everyone, young and old, to join us for a morning of camaraderie – it's a great way to forge new friendships, get out in the fresh air and enjoy the great outdoors."

Town Tidy events take place on the first Saturday of every month, aiming to bring people from across the community together to care for public spaces, parks, streets and neighbourhoods.

The March event comes ahead of The Great British Spring Clean, the nation's largest mass-action environmental campaign, which sees more than 400,000 volunteers each year clearing litter from streets, parks and beaches across the country.

Over the past few years, Congleton in Bloom's dedicated community gardeners have designed and planted all of the new gardens at Congleton War Memorial Hospital.

Before Christmas, volunteers planted up the long border alongside the hospital's new extension, and their next project will see them introducing new hedges and flower borders near the car park.

To the rear of the building, the award-winning wellbeing garden continues to provide a peaceful retreat for patients, visitors and staff alike, showcasing the lasting impact of the group's ongoing work.

Residents looking to get involved in the clean-up on Saturday can sign up in advance or just turn up on the day.
