The Argos store in Congleton town centre is expected to close permanently after being left shut throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The Bridestone Shopping Centre Argos store is among 120 around the country that have not reopened since restrictions on non-essential retail were initially lifted in June, before being reintroduced as part of the second lockdown yesterday (Thursday).

Argos' parent company, Sainsbury's, announced yesterday (Thursday) that it will cut 3,500 jobs around the business.

However, it has been confirmed that any standalone Argos stores, which have not reopened since March will now be permanently shut.

In its strategy update, Sainsbury's said: "120 of our standalone Argos stores have not reopened since we closed them back in March. These stores will now close permanently."

Congleton shoppers are currently having to use the Biddulph Argos, which is located in Sainsbury's, on Wharf Road.
