A husband-and-wife team are preparing to open the doors to their own antiques shop.

Marcus Lindsey Antiques & Interiors will welcome its first customers on Friday, September 25.

It is the latest business venture of Mark and Lindsey Thorneywork, who many will recognise from their time at Victoria Mill, which closed earlier this year.

"It was a huge loss for the town," said Mark, 67.

"With Victoria Mill gone, there doesn't seem to be any antique shops in the town.

"We've already had people knocking on the door asking when we will be open. It's great to have that interest already!"

The son of an antiques dealer, Mark is originally from Birmingham and trained as an engineer.

However, he soon drifted back into the world of antiques and has now been trading for around 30 years.

Together with his wife Lindsey, he is looking forward to opening his new shop, located at 76 Park Street.

"We're getting on a wee bit and we wanted a more permanent base, rather than doing all the fairs and markets," said Mark.

"Then this property became available and we just thought let's give it a try.

"It's a bit of an unknown venture as it's out of town and it's not been an antiques place before, but I suppose time will tell!"

Inside the shop you can expect to find a wide range of items, from period furniture and porcelain to paintings and rustic country decor.

There will also be a vast selection of books, curated by Lindsey, as well as artwork created by Ian Pearsall.

Mark added: "We're very excited!

"Of course there's some nerves as it's an unknown entity.

"But we've got a great location, just off Mountbatten Way, with plenty of parking nearby."
