Air cadets have been learning about the town's history.

The 230 (Congleton) Squadron Air Training Corps was recently invited to explore Congleton Town Hall.

Over 40 members of the group were warmly welcomed by Town Mayor, councillor Robert Brittain, and community committee chair, councillor Kay Wesley.

Reflecting on the visit, the mayor said: "It was a pleasure to welcome such an enthusiastic and engaged group of young people to the town hall.

"The cadets were a credit to their organisation.

"Their interest in Congleton's history and their thoughtful ideas made the visit especially enjoyable, and it was clear what a fantastic group they are."

The evening began with an informative talk, which included an interactive quiz covering the history of Congleton, its original Charter, and what life was like when it was signed in 1272.

The presentation also highlighted the role of the town council today, encouraging young people to get involved with the newly formed youth council, a platform designed to give young people a voice in local decision-making.

Following a short film about Congleton's Town Treasures, the cadets were given a hands-on experience during a guided tour of the town hall. Highlights included the opportunity to view the Town Mace, ring the Town Crier's Bell, and explore unique features such as the secret tunnel and the Grand Hall.

Air Cadets Commanding Officer Kate Clarke said: "Our cadets thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

"The experience provided a valuable insight into the operations of the town council, it was both educational and inspiring, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved."
