A local community-based group is spreading the word abvout its activities.

1st Gawsworth Girls' Brigade (GB) community group is a uniformed youth group for girls and young women from all backgrounds.

It's a safe environment where members can relate to one another, have fun, learn new skills, make a difference in their community, and discover more about the Christian faith. We currently are the only GB Group in the East Cheshire area and have been active for over 50 years.

The GB group is an integral part of Gawsworth Methodist Church's outreach into the community and works across fiur age categories - n:vestigate for 4-7's; n:gage for 8-11's; n:counta for 11-14's; and n:spire for 14-18's.

Its work is delivered, by trained volunteer leaders motivated by their faith, through provision of a structured weekly programme of activities.

Members earn programme awards as well as taking part in additional activities such as fun days, sleepovers and residential events.

The programme is varied but recent topics have included looking at the members' health and wellbeing including mental health, healthy eating, the importance of physical health, and the importance of rest.

Weekly activities enable girls and young women to grow and develop in confidence, resilience, wellbeing and life skills, whilst developing strong friendships, a sense of belonging, taking part in social action, and having great fun along the way.

The group also equips and empowers young women with leadership skills.

Young people aged 14 plus can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme which includes an element of physical activity and/or the GB Queen's Award programme, which also includes a range of activities, and/or GB's structured three-stage leadership programme.
