Over 30 objections have been lodged against a change of use application which could see agricultural buildings converted into three houses in Buglawton.

Nub News previously reported that applicant, Mr Heath, who is the owner has submitted plans to convert existing agricultural buildings into dwellings at Canalside Farm, Harvey Road, in Buglawton, Congleton.

A lot of the objections submitted have listed that the site can only be accessed via a narrow bridleway between the houses on the estate. The bridle way is used by walkers, bikers, dog walkers and other canal users. The development will provide one larger dwelling house and two smaller dwelling houses.

The application was discussed at Thursday's Congleton Town Council planning meeting.

Cllr Suzy Firkin said: "I think it's just more important than ever before with all the houses in Buglawton that this particular island of green is preserved.

"It's right next to the canal, all of the reasons we rejected the previous planning application on this site are all still present plus lots of other ones.

"Looking at the actual buildings, they just seen wholly inappropriate and I really don't know what was going on in their heads with the design of those buildings, it looks more like the beginnings of a small holiday park, which would be a concern about what future plans there are for those residences."

Cllr Kay Wesley proposed that the town council objected to the application on the grounds; it's not a permitted development because it wasn't an agricultural site and wasn't being used for agriculture.

There were also concerns relating to highway and safety due to there not being a road which can provide a reasonable access to the site, it would be dangerous, it's a popular area for walkers and the vehicular access isn't adequate for housing.

The proposal was approved.

Residents have until 26h June to submit their comments on the application, which can be accessed here and Cheshire East has set 14th July as the decision target date.
