A new residential care home has opened their doors in Congleton.

Priesty Fields residential and nursing home welcomed in the community for the first time on Monday November 15.

They held an open day for residents of Congleton to go and view their fully refurbished luxury care home.

Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Denis Murphy opened the home alongside 100-year-old Congleton native Dorothy Cartridge, with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony.

Cllr Murphy said: "I think the home is a fantastic facility. I've never been to a care facility like it!"

"Getting the full tour of the rooms, spa, shops, bar, and dining area was a wonderful experience.

"It's a first-class facility and the people who choose to come here will have a splendid time and will be extremely well looked after."

He continued: "As a community, we are extremely lucky to have a facility of this standard in Congleton, especially as it's the centre of town.

"One of the things Congleton has needed is a care home. We've got a very elderly population - the demographics for this particular area of Cheshire has a far higher number of elderly residents compared to other local authority areas, so facilities like this are very important to the community.†

Named after the road it is situated on, the luxury care home is situated just off Moody Street and will be opening its doors to tens of new residents.

Amongst the guests was Beryl Sowter, a local resident who was invited to the open day, she explained her reasons for attending the event:

"We live at the back behind it, so we've seen it being built and it is just interesting because when you're getting older you just think you pray to God that you don't have to go somewhere, but if you do you want it to be nice."

She added: "The thing is with a lot of care homes they start off really nice and then go downhill, but I don't think this one will."

"You go to some where your older relatives have gone and they're awful, whereas now I think it is nicer."

Alongside open space planning and a high standard of care, Priesty Fields have also accommodated an in-house boutique and salon, a place residents can go to relax and unwind with a manicure or massage.

They have also included: a gastropub, café, gym, laundrette, home cinema, GP office and a corner shop where residents can occupy themselves with everyday tasks.

The site overall has a homely village community feel.

The gastropub, named Ye Olde Moreton, after the Congleton landmark Little Moreton Hall, serves a selection of locally brewed beers and even hosts its own beer garden for residents and guests.

Care Director, Rishi Sodha stated that amongst the exceptional levels of detail that went into designing the home, they wanted to ensure it not only benefitted residents but also staff.

"Whatever the residents get in terms of premium [amenities] the staff get as well," he said.

The home has been designed to make residents feel more at comfortable, with homely décor and large windows for natural light.

It has all been designed to create a natural environment helping to boost health and happiness throughout.

Priesty Fields has adapted a new approach to residential care putting staff and residents first. Mr Sodha explained their new way of providing care:

"Our care will adapt to them; they don't adapt to our care, which I think is actually revolutionary for our industry."

"To me, it is those little details between making someone feel special to make them feel like an afterthought," he added.

"What we can give them is satisfaction and a sense of purpose, we're going to give you the opportunity to make a memory."

It is evident that every detail in the home has been approach with residents in mind, from the homely feeling of a fireplace to comfortable sofas, which not only look nice but offer lumbar (lower back) support.

"There's a big challenge in adult social care around nutrition and weight loss, so obviously that's a big focus for us.

"Whilst we have a main kitchen where most of the cooking is done, we also have a kitchenette in every main dining area.

"It's a fully domestic kitchen, it doesn't have a gas hob, but it does have an oven, microwave and fridge."

The home claims to offer the best person-centred care and will be a great addition to the Congleton community.

They currently have 20 Congleton-based staff, but once the home is at full capacity, they hope to employ anywhere between 80 to 100.

You can find more about the home and email them via their website.

Priesty Fields Care Home can also be contacted on 01260 221 731.

The new facility is located at CW12 4AQ.

The Congleton care home is situated 0.7 miles from the nearest care home - Park Lane Residential Care Home - so will aim to serve the other side of our growing town.
