Police have launched a fraud investigation at a care home in Congleton where residents are reportedly the victims.

The investigation relating to Heliosa Care and Nursing Home, on Boundary Lane, Mossley is in its early stages and no arrests have been made.

When approached, the care home said they do not wish to make a comment at this stage.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "Cheshire Constabulary has launched a fraud investigation whereby the victims are residents at a care home in Congleton.

"The investigation is in its early stages and no arrests have been made at this time."

A statement from the Care Quality Commission said: ""CQC is aware that the police are investigating alleged offences at Heliosa Nursing Home in Cheshire.

"We are in regular contact with the provider, police and local authority and will monitor the service closely to ensure patients are receiving safe care.

"If we find the provider is putting patients at risk of harm, we will take regulatory action."

Following its last inspection by the Care Quality Commission in August 2019, Heliosa was given an overall rating of "requires improvement".

The 40-bed care home is currently awaiting a decision from Cheshire East on plans to extend their premises which would include new bedrooms, a laundry room and a lounge.

However, a petition lodged against the plans has more than 1,600 signatures because of the impact on the natural wildlife habitat.

Congleton Town Council objected to the proposals because of highway safety issues, noise and intrusion on nature conservation.
