Tesco said today (Tuesday) that shoppers without a face covering will not be allowed to enter the premises.

The supermarket giant has a major store in Congleton and rules regarding mask wearing will now apply as Covid-19 restrictions tighten amid rising cases.

The major retailer will also be using 'additional security'.

Stores nationwide are also encouraging people to shop alone to cut down the risk of spreading the virus.

A statement said: "We won't let anyone into stores not wearing a face covering, unless they are exempt.

"We are also asking customers to shop alone, unless they're a carer or with children.

"We will have additional security to help manage this."
