A Congleton resident has been issued with an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice in relation to waste crime at a popular local beauty spot.

Earlier today (9th June), Sgt Simpson, a Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team officer, joined one of Cheshire East's Community Enforcement Officers (CEO) at an address in Congleton in connection to the crime at Dane-in-Shaw Pasture.

Following the issuing of the ticket the CEO and Sgt Simpson went to the SSSI site where they spoke to the local ranger about how they could get the wider community to help look after the SSSI site.

Posting on the Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team Facebook page, Sgt Simpson said: "You may be wondering why we would post about one ticket being issued? Well it's a start (first of many?) and we have to use the powers available to us.

"I'm hoping the person involved will have the conversation with their friends and this will reduce the issues.

"The reason I attended was to support our partners who play a massive part in policing our countryside. Again, we are committed to help play our part in protecting this site along with many other ones across the county."

Dane-in-Shaw Pasture is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to it being a grassland of national importance.
