A 95-year-old Congleton resident stepped forward this morning to become the first member of the town to receive the Covid-19 vaccination.

Originally from Liverpool, Reginald Holt moved to Congleton in 1950, where he retired as miner 45 years ago.

Reginald said: "I'm over the moon to receive the vaccine and was well looked after by the nurses."

Lysa Hasler, Operational Lead for the Congleton and Holmes Chapel GP practices, said: "I'm delighted the roll out of the coronavirus vaccine started today. This is the news we've all been waiting for.

"Our priority is our patients and we look forward to welcoming everybody. Members of the public attending today have displayed the community spirit which Congleton is renowned for.

"I would like to thank everyone involved that have worked together at such short notice to make this happen safely and effectively.

"Special thanks to Reginald for being the first volunteer through the Town Hall doors."

Patients arriving today and tomorrow are reminded to attend at the time of their appointment, and not to arrive early and face a cold wait.

Please wrap up warm, but be mindful that in the vast majority of cases you will need to expose an arm - so it may be easier to wear cardigans than over the head jumpers.

The GP practices will contact people as more vaccines become available and are following Government guidance as to which patients should be vaccinated as a priority.
