Week 1

Learn how to

  • hold the yarn and hook comfortably and how to crochet the basic stitches.
  • Chain stitch, double crochet half treble ,treble, slip stitch , changing colour and the difference between UK terms and US terms.

Of course there will be tea, coffee, water and biscuits will be available. A hook, stitch marker and yarn will be provided along with supporting written materials.

The word crochet means hook and to crochet entails the pulling of one loop of thread over another. Remember crochet cannot be done by a machine it can only be done by hand. Once you have mastered the basics then you will be amazed at what you can make!

Maybe even venture into Granny Squares which are very versatile.

Please bring your hooks and yarn to this workshop.

Week 3

Third week of Absolute Beginners Crochet Workshop.

By now I think we have moved on from being Absolute Beginners to being Advanced Beginners .

The key to learning to crochet is practice, practice and more practice.

So in this last week we will have a review of everything we have done in the last two sessions.

We will cover anything that is causing difficulties .

Then we will move on to cover some of the more advanced techniques which will give your work the best possible finish .eg colour changes ,blocking , borders etc

We will go over reading patterns which can be problematic.

We can also cover any other techniques which you would like to learn .

I am looking forward to this block of 3 workshops it will be a great opportunity to get to know everyone and by week 3 you will have learned the crochet basics on which you build your knowledge and skills.
