Cheshire Lawn Tennis Association held its award ceremony for 2020 last Friday via a YouTube video.

If you go through to 30 minutes you will find that they gave the lifetime achievement award jointly to Marion and John Doe in recognition of all their efforts for Congleton Lawn Tennis Club.

John recently gave up the office of chair of the club and had been a member of the club committee for a good number of years before that.

His wife Marion sadly passed away in 2019 after being club secretary for many years.

John and Marion were behind the successful Congleton Junior Open that ran for over 20 years and both contributed in numerous ways behind the scenes to ensure the club continued to function effectively.

Marion continued to support the administration of the club's adult coaching sessions up until just a few months before her death and always ensured that the club never ran short of tea coffee milk or toilet rolls.

John has also served on the Cheshire Tennis executive committee and helped to redesign and revitalise the Cheshire County Junior Shield event.

Cheshire LTA are talking about presenting the awards in person at the relevant clubs when things open up further and the CCLTA president will come along and say a few words.

Hopefully, this will take place on 18th July at the club's new Vice Presidents Tournament sponsored by Spall Clark.

John has recently accepted the role of vice president.
